From Sign-Up to First Session:
Here’s Exactly What Happens.

1

Create your Wisdom Profile

Tell us who you are: your background, interests, life experiences, and what you’d like to share with a young person. Takes about 15 minutes.

2

Background check & orientation

Every mentor completes a secure background check and a short orientation covering expectations, safety, and communication norms. Typically takes 5–7 days.

3

Get matched

We match you with a young person whose interests and needs align with your experience. You see their profile before anything is confirmed.

4

First session, guided and supported

Your first session comes with conversation starters and post-session prompts. You’ll never be left wondering what to say next.

5

A rhythm that’s yours to set

You and your mentee agree on how often and how long you meet. Most pairs land around once a week, but the rhythm is yours, and the relationship builds naturally from there.

How We Keep You Both Safe.

Safety isn’t a feature — it’s the foundation everything else is built on.

Background check — every mentor

No exceptions, no shortcuts. Fully secure and confidential screening before any session takes place.

AI Chaperone reviews every session

After each session, the AI Chaperone reviews the video and transcript across more than a dozen safety categories. When it flags something, a human reviews it. Transparent to you, invisible in the session.

Parents always in the loop

Parents receive session summaries and approve all sessions for children under 13.

Human review on every flag

Every safety escalation is reviewed by a real Eldera team member. No automated-only responses.

Eldera operates under an active MOU with the California Commission on Aging and meets
WHO Social Prescription standards for safe intergenerational programming.

You Don’t Need to Have All the Answers.
Just Show Up.

Here’s what a typical Eldera mentorship looks like week to week.

One-on-one sessions

You and your mentee agree on a rhythm that works, often around once a week, over Eldera’s secure platform. Guided conversation prompts available. You lead at your own pace.

Session summaries

After each session, you receive a brief summary and prompts for next time — so you can pick right back up where you left off.

Impact tracking

Your Social Health Tracker shows sessions completed, milestones reached, and the cumulative time you’ve invested in a young life.

Community events

Monthly mentor circles, themed discussions, and special events connect you with other Eldera mentors across the country.

Mentor development

Optional workshops on topics like active listening, navigating difficult conversations, and supporting young people through transitions.

Quarterly wisdom report

Every quarter, you receive a report showing the collective impact of the Eldera community — including yours.

They Have Questions. You Have Answers.

“I got into two colleges and I can’t decide. My parents want me to pick the safer one but it doesn’t feel right to me.”

They Came to Give.
They Received Just as Much.

I joined thinking I’d be giving something. Three months in, I realize I’ve received just as much. My mentee asks questions I’d stopped asking myself.

My mentee told me I was the first adult who listened without trying to fix everything. I didn’t expect that to mean so much — to both of us.

Everything Mentors Ask Us.

The relationship we’re always working toward is a lasting one-on-one mentorship, but that’s a real commitment, and not everyone is ready for it on day one. So you can start lighter and on your own terms. You can answer questions from young people and families, join community events like the mentor council, book clubs, and cooking clubs, or offer ad hoc help with something specific, a college essay, a question about your field, advice on a subject you love. It’s a way to contribute that fits your life, and for many people it’s how a fuller mentoring relationship eventually begins.
Not at all. What matters is life experience, patience, and a genuine desire to connect with a young person. We provide orientation, conversation guides, and ongoing support to help you feel confident from day one.
That’s up to you and your mentee. Most pairs meet around once a week, but you agree on a rhythm that fits both your lives, and it can evolve over time. Plan for a few minutes after each session to review your summary and prep for next time. If a weekly commitment feels like a lot, you can contribute in lighter ways instead.
Life happens, and the relationship can flex around it. You can reschedule through the platform or pause when you need to. We just ask that you communicate with your mentee’s family in advance. Consistency matters, but so does meeting people where they are.
Whatever feels natural. Many sessions start with conversation prompts we provide — topics like hobbies, school, goals, or life stories. Over time, the relationship develops its own rhythm. You’re not a tutor or therapist. You’re a trusted adult.
Yes, every mentor completes a secure background check before being matched. It’s fully confidential and typically takes 3–5 business days. No exceptions.
A computer or tablet with a camera and microphone, plus a stable internet connection. Sessions happen on Eldera’s secure video platform — no downloads required. We walk you through setup during orientation.
Mentoring through Eldera is a volunteer commitment. Many of our mentors describe it as the most meaningful hour of their week. There are no costs to you — Eldera provides everything you need.
